There are only two things holding me back from giving this a four star rating. While shopping for a new pipe (ended up getting a used estate Tilshead while there) I packed a bowl of this dark stuff and it sure made shopping fun! Flavoring is leading with Cavendish supporting. of STC Holdings LLC. Flavor is mildly vanilla. Make it better then the current Black Cav. This is an easy compromise. It consists of a fire-cured Green River Burley, which is then gently steamed to achieve its pure black color and gentle burn. I thought Lane 1-Q would be my favorite aromatic, but this blend has surpassed 1-Q. The taste I get on the back of the tongue is a hint of dark chocolate. Smooth enough to smoke on its' own with a vanilla flavor and great room aroma. Found the nose to be pleasant, but a little deceptive extremely mild with little nickick which I found myself missing. I haven't found a better black cavendish, It could be used as an all day smoke it's that smooth and cool, (it would probably eventually get boring though). Somewhere between burnt marshmellows and molasses. I know I have raved about other tobaccos, but this one is the best "all dayer" that I have ever smoked. In the end it has a welcoming taste, a comforting aroma, and a surprisingly easy burn. Lit a bowl in my ben wade and the smoke was quite thick. Liquor and chocolate are the first to disappear, sugar hangs out a little longer, and vanilla is the last to go at 3/4's the way. Every single pipe shop has it. Smells nice in the room. That being said, you are far from the only one to find them a little "bland" tasting. No bite, and an aromatic note that gets me compliments from the wife and strangers alike.
